DIMENSION - DJ Producer goes Live
Dimension decided transform his body of work as a D&B producer into a live show. Commisionning an ambitious workstation concept ‘show piece’ into an on-stage see through spectacle. The transparent workstation would allow complete control of the show’s audio and also trigger and sync the show’s video department situated at front of house.
Innovations
2 sleeves in one case, to save a extra box on the overall piece count, Gravity paired the 2U on-stage I/O sleeve into the same airport friendly peli case as the 3U off-stage switching sleeve. 2 x Cat6 cables in the multicore enabled the Ableton Link sync data to FOH via a much tested network switch, Midi data to FOH also was built into the design using a tried and tested system.
A tried and tested bullet proof design was used to host and convert all USB devices to 2 way din midi, enabling the USB controller to respond to Ableton.
Brief
Control to from exclusively from USB only devices
To use the latest 2019 laptops (the apple T2 chip was bypassed)
To simulatneously control both A & B computers
Both A & B computer’s audio and midi always exactly mirrored
Off stage hardware (only control on-stage)
Small piece count
Ableton Link sync data to FOH
Midi data to FOH
All cases under 23kg
